Yurij Kovalchyk: "Cellulit badly passes the important tints of emotions"
In cultural and art center whipping "Dzyga" passed exhibition of works of known photoartist Yurij Kovalchyk. It follows to notice that all pictures are executed on the photographic paper made by hand. The recipe of photoemulsion developed and an author perfected. In opinion of Y.Kovalchyk, using this old technique, it is possible to be deprived the "curse" of digital technologies, banality in the photographic art.
— Is the name of the "Smell of woman" display plagiarism of the name of movie?
— At one time R.Baran after certain disagreements between you and me, declared in public, that had in the end understood my pictures, above all things — pictures of women. He said, that from my pictures notedly, that I feel a woman on a smell. For me indeed in a woman its smell is extraordinarily important.
— Are your models too thin, do not you intentionally feed them?
— I consider that a thin body very well passes the state, therefore practically does not use for the pictures Galichina beautiful women with magnificent forms. I am afraid, that cellulit badly passes the important tints of emotions.
— Works your frank enough. Many, presumably, does it shock?
— To no purpose. Yet in before last age the French artist Dega drew women which are washed in a bowl. Now these works in Louvre, and not only there. Two years ago one of living classics of the artistic picture Irving Penn gave out two albums, devoted to the womanish body in his different displays. In particular, it is there offered pictures bare dancer ïðåêëîííûõ years with large and flabby forms. And it shocks nobody. Major there is not that it is represented, and that an artist inlaid in the works.
— On what principle did take away pictures?
— With a 75 pictures Lvov artist Vlodko Kaufman selected 55. He said, that chooses good and very good among works. Vlodko noticed that exhibiting a greater amount is at the wrong time. And for me on principle, that a selection was done by no photographer, and a man which well knows different directions of art has the wide look. He placed works also and, in my opinion, very did a kind.
— What place in process of photographing occupies a technician?
— In this case of technician is an only successfully neat instrument. Important works and their artistic value. The process of receipt of picture on a paper occupies from six to 10 time. After the study of old books and collection of recipes of making of photoemulsion came to conclusion, that in my practice, applying them is impossible. Therefore after the row of experiments created the recipe. Sometimes I use the components of vegetable origin. I have this recipe intention to patent.
— Speak, you take pictures sex...
— Sex — in the translation "floor". The psychological displays of floor, different states of soul, which are expressed through bodies, are indeed explored in my pictures, without a review to pieces. And if someone constantly sees something other in place of bananas and cracks in locks, no time to him to appeal to the psychiatrist?
— Is not it expedient exhibition of works and other genres?
— I consider, mixing of genres is an amateurness. Exactly amateurs often give on the personal exhibitions or even in albums all, that took picture. In the total — we have a "tasteless vinaigrette". Authors were not determined as artists unable to conduct the selection of own works and is eclecticism.
— What value is had for you by a present exhibition?
— During the exhibition "Smell of woman" there were the interesting acquaintances, new friends, models. Saw the works successfully located in the proper interior. Looked at these works, on the creation by other eyes. Got quite a bit various emotions: from negative like "if it women all, I renounce to be a woman" to the words of the known Lvov artist of Vedenskyj Î., that this exhibition is better at the last 5-10 years and that for me it is a deadlock, because better to do I already will not be able. For me high estimation of my works by photoartist EFIAP of Þ.Schypunov was a surprise, what enough unprofuse in compliments. Emotions much and this perfectly, because unique, what I am afraid of, — it's a indifference.
